Boswellia Serrata

Local Name : Salai Guggul, Boswellin, Indian frankincense, Shallaki

Parts Used : Gum Resin

Uses of Boswellia serrata :
·  One of the principal constituents in the gum resin is boswellic acid which exhibits anti-inflammatory activity which can work against rheumatoid arthritis pain, low back pain and osteoarthritis.

·  Boswellia has been known to reduce joint swelling, maintain blood supply to inflamed joints and mobility as well as reduce pain due to stiffness in the joints.

·  The Gum Resin of Boswellia Serretta besides being antiarthritic, also has expectorant effect and improves immunity.
 
 

Gymnema sylvestre

Latin name : Gymnema sylvestre

Local Name : Gurmar, Gymnema, Gurmari, Gurmarbooti, periploca of the woods, meshasring.

Uses of Gymnema :

Benefits of Gotu Kola : Gotu kola is an wonderful herb with incredible healing powers and is a rich source of vitamin K.

  • Wound Healing and Skin Lesions : Gotu kola contains triterpenoids which strengthen the skin, increase the concentration of antioxidants in wounds, and restore inflamed tissues by increasing blood supply. Hence, gotu kola has been used externally for burns, psoriasis, prevention of scar formation following surgery, recovery from an episiotomy following vaginal delivery of a newborn, and treatment of external fistulas.
  • Venous Insufficiency and Varicose Veins : When blood vessels lose their elasticity, blood pools in the legs and fluid leaks out of the blood vessels, causing the legs to swell (venous insufficiency). In another study of people with varicose veins, ultrasound examination revealed improvements in the vascular tone of those who took gotu cola.
  • High Blood Pressure : In a study of people with heart disease and high blood pressure, those who took abana; an Ayurvedic herbal mixture containing gotu kola experienced a significant reduction in diastolic blood pressure compared to those who took placebo.
  • Gotu Kola is also used in treatment of Diarrhoea and Gynacological applications such as menstrual disorders and vaginal discharge.
  • Anxiety : Triterpenoids have been shown to soothe anxiety and boost mental function in mice.
  • Scleroderma : One study involving 13 females with scleroderma found that gotu kola decreased joint pain, skin hardening, and improved finger movement.
Insomnia : Gotu kola has been used to help people with insomnia because of its sedative effects.

Emblica officinalis

Benefits of Amla :

 

  • Amla is "Sattwic" (stimulates spiritual purity).
  • Amla Increases "OJAS"(the subtle essence of living matter, the foundation of good health, mental sanity, and spiritual growth).
  • The edible fruit tissue of Amla contains protein concentration 3-fold and ascorbic acid concentration 160-fold than those of apples. This fruit also contains considerably higher concentration of most minerals and amino acids than apples.
  • Amla juice has twenty times more vitamin C than orange juice.
  • Amla is used as cosmetic in India. It is an accepted hair tonic in traditional recipes for enriching hair growth and pigmentation.

Actions 

Bitter, astringent, de-obstruent, stomachic
The plant is considered deobstruent, diuretic, astringent and cooling.
Uses

Hepatitis
Phyllanthus blocks DNA polymerase, the enzyme needed for the hepatitis B virus to reproduce. Fifty-nine percent of those infected with chronic viral hepatitis B lost one of the major blood markers of HBV infection (e.g., hepatitis B surface antigen) after using phyllanthus for thirty days. While clinical studies on the outcome of phyllanthus and HBV have been mixed, the species P. urinaria and P. niruri seem to work far better than P. amarus.
Jaundice: Use the decoction of the plant.
Whole plant is useful for the treatment of some forms of dropsy, gonorrhea, menorrhagia and other genito- urinary affections of a similar type.
A poultice of the leaves mixed with salt cures itch and other skin affections.
